June 23rd, 2021: Digital Debate – Industrial Sustainability 4.0 – Risk, ROI, and Business Model Innovation
Recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvjYBXUmCIA
For years, sustainability was just a tab on the corporate website, but with no material strategy behind it. Increasingly, sustainability is evolving as a cost avoidance strategy, and emerging research proves that consumers are more likely to buy from sustainable brands. Also… isn’t it the right thing to do? At the end of the day, enterprises will “do sustainability” because they can make and save money – and digital sustainability technology can finally deliver the revenue increases and cost savings that the world’s enterprises need to justify sustainability as more than just a PR façade.

June 16th, 2021: Digital Debate – The Human Side of Digital Transformation
Recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldWTppM0j-U
I’m going tone-deaf to the term “Digital Transformation” – it means everything and nothing. Still, one thing is clear: digitally mature enterprises understand that transformation is much more about people than it is about technology. It’s about building customer value and employee experience. It’s about cultural shift and change management. Of course, technology strategy is an important piece – but getting the human element right helps create real competitive advantage.
The line-up:
- Nigel Fenwick, VP, Digital Transformation & Business Strategy – Forrester
- Trent Mayberry, Chief Digital Officer – UST

April 28th, 2021: Digital Debate – How to Automate Automation
Recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2VmPanKld0
Over the past few years, many enterprises have deployed automation technologies (RPA bots, “AI-enabled processes”, etc) – but with questionable ROI and mixed results. By and large, process automation technologies have failed to deliver the expected value… until now. Recent advances have enabled automation solutions to emerge from the trough of disillusionment, and customers are beginning to see a massive return on their investments in this space. The problem now lies in everything from how to identify high-value business cases, how to select and implement solutions at scale, and how to anticipate disruption to future-proof architectures.
The line-up:
- Goran Kukic, Chief Innovation Technology Officer – Nestle
- Sajesh Gopinath, General Manager, Automation Solutions – UST
- Moderator: Isaac Brown, Associate Partner – Landmark Ventures
March 23rd, 2021: Digital Debate – The Evolution of the Industrial Subscription Economy
Recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvYLFJNgaHw
In our previous sessions on the Industrial Subscription Economy, we discussed business model innovation, value creation, and risk mitigation across industrial equipment and services. Industrial OEMs and service providers are increasingly delivering advanced digital capabilities to their customers. Innovative providers are transitioning to as-a-service / utilization-based pricing models for their machines – but how can these first-movers mitigate the risks of transformation while ensuring a positive return on investment for themselves and their customers?

October 22nd, 2020: Digital Debate – The Future of Industrial Business Continuity
Recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hV14j1KskjQ&t
For years, investors have poured billions into IoT, Industry 4.0, and related industrial tech startups – but the adoption by large industrials has been disappointing – until now! Industrial tech is finally emerging from the trough of disillusionment as these companies are beginning to believe in the value proposition and ROI of digital industrial technologies. As the world’s industrial enterprises move forward with their digital agendas in 2020/21, everyone has their eye on the same prize – business continuity in the age of uncertainty. How can technology enable agility and resilience?
The line-up:
- Bimal Mehta, VP, Global Innovation –Schneider Electric
- Jim Wells, VP, Americas IoT Solutions – Sierra Wireless

Recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghnEm9rpeis
In our previous sessions on the Industrial Subscription Economy, we discussed business model innovation and risk mitigation across industrial equipment and services. As manufacturers and service providers deliver new digital services, how can they ensure that they (and their customers) capture the maximum amount of value through their investments in digital transformation? What is the most direct path towards a positive return on investment for the digital industrial enterprise?

September 24th, 2020: Digital Debate – The Evolution of Industrial Operational Resilience
Recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHCwYabJKAQ
In an increasingly remote world, the value of real-time operational visibility is essential for industrial operators, OEMs, and service providers. Fortunately, the reduced cost of IoT hardware and the ubiquity of machine connectivity are enabling massive improvements in remote monitoring – driving resilience for critical assets/environments around the world. The problem now lies in everything from how to buy and roll out solutions at scale, and how to anticipate disruption.
The line-up:
- Magnus Akesson, Chief Information Officer, Manufacturing – GE Power
- Olivier Pauzet, VP & General Manager, IoT Solutions – Sierra Wireless
- Moderator: Isaac Brown, Associate Partner – Landmark Ventures
September 10th, 2020: Digital Debate – Risk Mitigation for the Industrial Subscription Economy
Recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmAONLOpvtc
In our previous session on the Industrial Subscription Economy, we discussed equipment manufacturers bringing connected machines to market with value-added digital services for their customers, and transitioning into equipment subscription models. The challenge now is how to assess and mitigate the risks of investing in digital transformation and business model innovation. How can industrial manufacturers, service providers, operators, and financiers be first-movers towards as-a-service models while also protecting their balance sheets?
The line-up:
- John Riggs SVP, Applied Technology Solutions – Munich Re / HSB
- Guneet Bedi, Chief Revenue Officer – relayr
- Moderator: Isaac Brown, Associate Partner – Landmark Ventures
June 18th, 2020: Digital Debate – The Rise of the Industrial Subscription Economy
Recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EU3jVgmNr6w
Equipment manufacturers are increasingly bringing connected machines to market with value-added digital services for their customers. The tech is the easy part – the tricky question is how to monetize it. Innovative manufacturers are transitioning to as-a-service / utilization-based pricing models for their machines, but the ability to successfully financially engineer these models remains an obstacle for the world’s OEMs, and their operator customers.
The line-up:
- Usman Shuja, Chief Commercial Officer – Honeywell
- Guneet Bedi, Chief Revenue Officer – relayr

Recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYzABVYqr-0
A shifting industrial workforce creates existential threats for the world’s industrial enterprises – the downstream effects of retiring workers and shorter job tenures are highly disruptive. Digital vendors have begun emerging with solutions for this problem… but it’s a race against time to see whether they can plug the gaps before tribal knowledge is lost and the skills gap continues to widen.
The line-up:
- Michael Muilenburg, Head of Operational Technology & Strategic Planning – 3M
- Brian Sallee, Co-founder – Dozuki
- Moderator: Isaac Brown, Associate Partner – Landmark Ventures

- Bilal Zuberi, Partner – Lux Capital
- Moderator: Isaac Brown, Associate Partner – Landmark Ventures
